In 1986 Ordnance Survey published a map of the M25 and London at half-inch (1:126 720) scale, enlarged from 1:250 000 Routemaster mapping. At the time, it was intended as a one-off, following the completion of the M25 orbital route. The next year, however, another sheet - ‘Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds & York’ - was published in the same style under the heading ‘City Link Map’. These were then followed in 1988 and 1989 by ‘Birmingham and the Midlands’ and ‘Edinburgh & Glasgow’ respectively. Thus was formed the ‘City Link’ series of maps - a small series, but perhaps quite useful to those who regularly used the road networks in the areas covered. After 1989, no new ‘City Link’ maps were published and the series all but disappeared after c.1992. |
The aim of this collection theme is to acquire a copy of each edition of the City Link Maps published from 1986-1989. |
